Recognition for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

LP is committed to building and maintaining positive relationships with Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Nations. We acknowledge that Indigenous People and Nations exercise rights protected by the Constitution Act, 1982 in the areas in which LP operates in Canada. LP’s efforts in building positive relationships with Indigenous Peoples and Nations shall be guided by established federal, provincial laws and regulations, treaties, agreements, and the principles contained within United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), including the principle of Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).

We recognize that environmentally responsible and economically sustainable forest management includes mutually beneficial relationships with local Indigenous Peoples and Nations. LP is committed to engaging with Indigenous Peoples and Nations through opportunities that relate to:

• Forest management planning and operations
• Local employment
• Job training and education
• Business relations and agreements
• Community involvement and outreach

Further, LP is committed to providing education and training of personnel and contractors, including management and staff, on the histories of Indigenous Peoples, UNDRIP, Aboriginal treaties and rights, Indigenous laws and Indigenous-Crown relations.
