What are the Advantages to Re-siding in Warmer Months?

Warmer months bring more hours of daylight and therefore more workable hours to install your new siding. Additionally, building professionals and DIY enthusiasts don’t have to worry about the hazards that come with colder months such as materials freezing or slipping on icy surfaces or equipment. 

When it comes to painting, many paint manufacturers recommend warmer temperatures for best application. If you are using prefinished siding such as LP^® SmartSide^® ExpertFinish^® Trim & Siding, touch-up paint should be stored at temperatures between 40° F and 100° F (and only applied at temperatures above 50° F). 

What are the First Steps to Beginning a Re-side in the Spring or Summer? 

First, consider the cost to put new siding on a house and the timeline for your project. These factors will help you decide whether to hire a contractor or do the re-side yourself. If you decide to perform the re-side you should measure your square footage, confirm siding measurements, purchase siding, make sure to have all tools needed and make sure to prepare your surface so that it is clean, flat and dry. Standard woodworking tools, nails, sealant, paint and a code approved water-resistive barrier are a must.

How Much Time Should You Expect a Re-side Project in the Spring or Summer to Take? 

If you are making significant changes to your exterior, you are likely anxious to see the finished result. Keep in mind that a re-siding process may take months to complete.

At the start of your project, you or your contractor may have to remove old siding or prepare the surface in other ways. Preparation for your re-siding project could take a couple of months, but once the surface is prepared a good contractor can complete the project in a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the square footage, weather and other external influences.
