[VIDEO] LP® SmartSide® House Trim Application Tips & Tricks
House trim gives homes and other structures a clean, finished look. Nothing is a better complement to beautiful LP® SmartSide® lap and panel siding than our engineered wood trim products. Here are some quick tips to finish your LP SmartSide siding remodel project with trim.
Choosing Trim
Buying the right trim will help give your house the right look. Choose LP SmartSide 440 Series Trim when using LP SmartSide panel siding. Choose thicker LP SmartSide 540 Series Trim when using LP SmartSide lap siding to ensure the lap edges don’t stick past the trim. If you choose to install your trim over your lap siding, LP SmartSide 440 Series Trim is a fine choice.
Creating Corners
For an attractive corner, install the trim on the sides of your house flush to the face of the house. Then install the front-facing trim so it overlaps the side trim. The butt joint will not be facing the front, giving your home an overall cleaner appearance. In some parts of the U.S., trim can be installed using finish nails. Check with an installation specialist in your area for guidance.
The Finishing Touch
Once your LP SmartSide siding and trim are installed, you’ll need to seal all butt joints with a high-quality sealant. Choose a sealant rated as compliant with ASTM C920 Class 25 or higher. After your sealant cures, choose a 100% acrylic exterior latex paint and apply it according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Build With Us®
LP SmartSide trim is available in lengths up to 16 feet, which may reduce seams better than many options for house trim, for a premium appearance that enhances the curb appeal of any home. Complement your trim and siding with matching fascia and soffit panels. For complete application instructions of LP products, visit www.LPSmartSide.com.
